The following instructions will help Macinstosh users update their dialer application to include their Member ID and Network Name (swbell.net) and access SBC Internet service:

Mac OS 7 | Mac OS 8 | Mac OS 8.5 & 9 | Mac OS X

Modifying DUN settings for Macintosh OS 7

To set up a "open transport" -- the Macintosh® term for a Dial-Up Networking (DUN) Connection -- on Mac® OS 7 platform.

  • Open the Apple Menu by clicking on the colorful apple in the upper-left of the monitor.
  • Select Control Panels from the Apple Menu.
  • Select FreePPP Setup from the menu.
  • Click the Accounts tab and select the profile used to connect to the Internet Service and click on the Edit button.
  • Enter the following data in the fields displayed:
  •   User name: Member ID ( MemberID@swbell.net )
      Password: Internet password; remember, it's case sensitive.
      Note: To save the password (only on that computer), place a check in the Save Password box.
  • Click the OK button.
  • Close the FreePPP Setup window.

To set up a "open transport" -- the Macintosh® term for a Dial-Up Networking (DUN) Connection -- on Mac® OS 8 platform.

  • Open the Apple Menu by clicking on the colorful apple in the upper-left of the monitor.
  • Select Control Panels from the Apple Menu.
  • Select PPP option from the menu.
  • Enter the following data in the fields displayed:
  •   User name: Member ID ( MemberID@swbell.net )
      Password: Internet password; remember, it's case sensitive.
      Note: To save the password (only on that computer), place a check in the Save Password box.
  • Close the PPP window.

To set up a "open transport" -- the Macintosh® term for a Dial-Up Networking (DUN) Connection -- on Mac® OS 8.5 & 9 platforms.

  • Open the Apple Menu by clicking on the colorful apple in the upper-left of the monitor.
  • Select Control Panels from the Apple Menu.
  • Select Remote Access option from the menu.
  • Enter the following data in the fields displayed:
  •   User name: Member ID ( MemberID@swbell.net )
      Password: Internet password; remember, it's case sensitive.
      Note: To save the password (only on that computer), place a check in the Save Password box.
  • Close the Remote Access window.

Modifying DUN settings for Macintosh OS X

To set up a "open transport" -- the Macintosh® term for a Dial-Up Networking (DUN) Connection -- on Mac® OS X platforms: iMac™ computers, G3 towers, G4 towers.

  • Open the Apple Menu by clicking on the colorful apple in the upper-left of the monitor.
  • Select System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
  • Select Network.
  • Click on the Show field and select Modem port.
  • Click on the PPP tab field. Enter the following data in the fields displayed:
  •   User name: Member ID ( MemberID@swbell.net )
      Password: Internet password; remember, it's case sensitive.
      Note: To save the password (only on that computer), place a check in the Save Password box.
  • Click the Apply Now button on the bottom right of the Network options screen.
