SUBJECT: Important Service Change - Action RequiredDear Member,
At Southwestern Bell Internet Services, we are upgrading our network. As a result, the current IMAP email settings you are using in your email client will no longer be valid.To ensure continuity of your email service, you must change your IMAP settings as soon as possible. Note: Before you change your settings, you need to download all email off the IMAP server to your email client.
Below you will find instructions so you can manually update the email settings in Microsoft® Outlook Express 5 and higher and Netscape® Messenger version 4.7x and higher. Please take a moment to update your settings today. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Configuring Outlook Express 5 and higher:
- From the "Tools" menu of your Outlook Express, choose "Accounts"
- Select the "Mail" tab
- Click the "Add" button
- From the "Add" menu, click "Mail"
- In the text box labeled "Display Name," type your name and click "Next"
- In the "Email Address" box, type in your full email address (memberID@swbell.net)
- For the "My incoming mail server is a…" question, select "POP3" as your answer
- In the "Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server" box, type the following: postoffice.swbell.net
- In the "Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server" box, type the following: mail.swbell.net
- Click "Next"
- In the "Account Name" box, type your full email address
- In the "Password" box, type your swbell.net email password
- Check the "Remember password" box if you want it to remember your password (optional)
- Do not check the "Log on using secure password" box
- Click "Next"
- Click "Finish"
- After clicking "Finish," highlight your former mail account and Click on "Remove" to remove your old IMAP settings.
Configuring Netscape Messenger versions 4.7x:
- From the "Edit" menu on the toolbar of your Netscape Communicator browser, select "Preferences"
- Under the "Mail & Newsgroups" category on the left, select "Mail Servers"
- Click "Edit" to display the "Mail Server Properties" dialog box
- In the "Server Name" box, type the following: postoffice.swbell.net
- Under "Server type," Click the pull-down list and select "POP3 Server" if not already selected
- Under "User Name," type your full email address (memberID@swbell.net)
- Click "OK"
- In the "Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server" box, type the following: mail.swbell.net
- In the "Outgoing Mail Server User Name" box, type your full email address (memberID@swbell.net)
- Under the "Mail & Newsgroups" category on the left, select "Identity"
- In the "Email Address" box, type your full email address (memberID@swbell.net)
- Click "OK" Configuring
Netscape Messenger versions 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2:
- From the "Task" menu on the toolbar of your Netscape Browser, select "Mail" ("Mail & Newsgroups" in Netscape 6.2)
- Click on "Edit" from the Netscape Mail toolbar
- Select "Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings"
- From the categories on the left, select "Outgoing Server"
- For server name, type the following: mail.swbell.net
- Enter user name if not already entered
- Click "Advanced" (to remove the former outgoing server)
- In Netscape 6.0 and 6.1 only (these steps have been removed for Netscape 6.2):
- Click "Add"
- Type the following: mail.swbell.net
- Click "OK"
- Highlight the new mail server name and Click "Set as Default"
- Highlight the former outgoing mail server and Click "Delete"
- Click "OK"
- Choose the "New Account" button from the lower left side
- Choose "ISP or Email Provider" (should already be checked)
- Type in your name and your email address and Click "Next"
- Select "Type of Incoming Server" and choose "POP"
- In "Server Name," type the following: postoffice.swbell.net
- Click "Next"
- Enter user name and Click "Next"
- Enter "Account Name" and Click "Next"
- The "Congratulations" page will verify information
- Click "Finish"
- From the categories on the left side, highlight the former account and Click the "Remove Account" button
If you do not use Outlook Express 5 and higher or Netscape 4.7x and higher, you will need to contact Customer Care for assistance with changing your settings.
